From the Presidio to La Quinta
California golf in this collection runs from Presidio Golf Course, established in 1895, to Rustic Canyon and SilverRock in the 2000s. Alister MacKenzie appears twice, at Pasatiempo and Sharp Park. William P. Bell and William F. Bell put their names on a long run of courses, from Lakewood and Rancho Park to Torrey Pines North and South. Add Recreation Park in Long Beach, Hansen Dam in Pacoima and Pete Dye's Stadium Course in La Quinta, and the state's golf story is told hole by hole.
Picking a California Course and Frame
Start with the course they play most or the round they still talk about, whether that is Torrey Pines South or Knollwood. The 12x16 suits a desk or bookshelf in an office, 18x24 works over a den sofa or bar cart, and 24x32 holds its own on a large wall. Black frames sharpen the lines, white feels light and airy, and green leans into the fairways. For a gift set of two or three, pair Torrey Pines North and South, the two Costa Mesa Country Club courses, or three PGA West layouts in La Quinta.
