From the Bronx to Montauk
New York golf in this collection runs from city parks to the far end of Long Island. Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx dates to 1895, and Dyker Beach in Brooklyn, a Tom Bendelow design, followed in 1897. Out in Farmingdale, A.W. Tillinghast laid out the Red course at Bethpage in 1935 and the Black a year later. Upstate, Devereux Emmet's Leatherstocking course in Cooperstown goes back to 1909, and Montauk Downs, a Robert Trent Jones layout, dates to 1928.
Picking Your New York Course Print
Start with the course the golfer actually plays or talks about most. Bethpage Red and Black make a natural pair for anyone who has played both in Farmingdale, and Van Cortlandt with Dyker Beach suits a city golfer as a set of two. A 12x16 sits well on an office desk or shelf, while 18x24 or 24x32 holds its own above a den sofa or bar. Black frames sharpen the lines, white keeps things bright, and green brings a clubhouse feel.
