Nearly a Century of North Carolina Golf
These six courses cover almost a hundred years of North Carolina golf design. Pinehurst No. 2 dates to 1907. Donald Ross's work also shows up at Mid Pines Inn Golf Club (1921) and Pine Needles Lodge Golf Club Practice Loop (1927), both in Southern Pines. Mike Strantz came later and brought a different eye, with Tobacco Road in Sanford in 1998 and Tot Hill Farm in Asheboro in 2000. In Charlotte, Dr Charles L Sifford Golf Course at Revolution Park dates to 1937.
Pairing Ross and Strantz on Your Wall
Start with the course that means the most to you. That might be the one from a golf trip, the one close to home, or the one still on someone's list. A 12x16 fits a desk or office shelf. An 18x24 holds its own above a den sofa, and a 24x32 suits a wall that needs one strong piece. Green frames pick up the fairways, black looks crisp and white keeps things light. For a set of two or three, group the Ross courses together or hang Tobacco Road beside Tot Hill Farm.
